The “Connect as One” youth-led book swap & meet fair took place at KidWorks on Sunday, August 26. This event was organized by the youth from the Edigation (Education and Immigration) committees. Prior to the event the youth met and discussed to plan a, “book fair that included immigration resources for children, youth, and parents.” Thus they agreed on naming their event “Connect as One”, because the goal was to bring everyone together. From poetry readings to musical performances, both young and old joined as one and shared ideas, book suggestions, and resources. Furthermore, there was cheer and excitement from the children as the Fire Department came to visit and take pictures with them. The overall success of the event left children smiling. Youth were informed (thanks to the Orange County Dream Team who provided immigration resources), and parents were grateful to see their children going home with excitement because they were taking books in their hands. The youth from both of the committees felt accomplished and proclaimed that their “Connect as One” book swap & meet was a success! - Basti Lopez |
